Hurricane Epsilon Captured by MSG-4 Satellite

The National Hurricane Center started monitoring a non-tropical low late on October 15. It slowly organized and gained convection despite moderate wind shear as it meandered southeast of Bermuda. Early on October 19, NHC issued a special advisory on the system as it became more well-defined, dubbing it Tropical Depression Twenty-Seven as it became nearly stationary. Three hours later, the system strengthened into Tropical Storm Epsilon making it the earliest forming 26th Atlantic named storm. Epsilon gradually strengthened the following day in the central Atlantic, nearing hurricane strength as it completed a small counter-clockwise loop. An eye soon became apparent on infrared satellite images, and Epsilon was declared to have reached hurricane strength at 03:00 UTC on October 21.
